The Mayor of South Ribble and the Mayor of Preston were amongst the VIPs attending the official opening of Preston's homeless scheme for young people and adults on Tuesday 4th July. The Mayors unveiled a painting by acclaimed local artist, Lisa Ashcroft, to commemorate the event. The artist has worked with residents to create the painting, which depicts a contemporary coat of arms for the scheme.
The £2.3M purpose built housing scheme for homeless people is in Oxford Street in the Avenham area of the city. It offers badly needed housing in Preston for homeless, single people, and has been specially designed and built for the purpose.
The project, named Foundations, is on the site of the former Warwick House hostel. It opened its doors exactly one year ago and to date, has provided over 65 people with safe accommodation and support services to enable them to improve their own lives.
The design and building of Foundations has been a partnership between Preston City Council and New Progress Housing Association
It is the first major partnership to create new housing in the city between the two organisations and both have provided part of the cost.
