Nominate your community heroes
Date posted: 17th April 2007
IF YOU know a person or a group that makes an outstanding contribution to the South Ribble community, South Ribble Borough Council wants to hear from you.
Whether it's through voluntary work, caring for a loved one, helping the disabled, being neighbourly, helping to improve the environment, or being involved in local projects, you can help them gain the recognition they deserve with their 2007 community awards scheme.
For the sixth year running, the council is joining forces with BAE Systems, Sawle & Co Solicitors, the Disabled Information & Advice Centre, Progress Housing Group and Accent Northwest to honour the borough's unsung heroes.
The Community Achievement Awards were set up in memory of Vaughan Seddon, a committed Youth Worker who died in 1999 and Joe Schultz who died in 2001 and was involved in setting up the Disabled Advice & Information Centre.
There are four age categories and a category for groups. Every nominee will receive their own certificate and the winner of each category will receive a cheque too.
One overall winner from all the categories will be chosen to receive the Vaughan Seddon Award, and another chosen to receive the Joe Schultz Award. Both will receive a certificate, cheque and a trophy.
Councillor Brenda Wilson, cabinet member with responsibility for cultural and community services, said:
"We know there are many people in South Ribble who deserve recognition for their selfless efforts and these awards are designed to find them and reward their dedication to the community. If you know anyone at all who you think deserves an award, we really want to hear from you."
The 2007 Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday 20th June in the Banqueting Suite at the Civic Centre. All nominators plus those nominated will be invited to attend.
If you would like to know more about the awards, or you would like to request an application form, please contact Jayne Fletcher on 01772 421109 or click here to email. Nominations need to be returned by 30th April 2007.
