Despite the summer going AWOL, tenants from New Progress Housing Association beat off tough competition to wow judges in the organisation's annual garden competition.

Keen gardener Mr Scahill, from Penwortham received first prize in the small garden section for the third year running and Mr & Mrs Crossley from Burneside wowed judges in the large garden section. Three tenants at a sheltered scheme in Bashall Grove, Leyland - Colin and Linda Dilworth, and Barbara Gardner - achieved first prize for their communal garden (non-retirement).

Marie Goodier of Walmer Bridge impressed judges with her garden in pots, walking away with the first prize for the containers, window boxes and hanging baskets section.  Sandra Moorby won first prize for keeping a local communal area.

The popular competition is organised every year to recognise tenants who make a positive difference to their neighbourhoods with their gardens.

All the winners and runner-ups received garden centre vouchers and certificates in recognition of their hard work from Progress's Chief Executive, Jacqui de Rose at an Awards ceremony held on the 11th September at New Progress's Head Office.
