VIOLENT MAN SENTENCED TO EIGHT MONTHS
Date posted: 4th January

Mark Armstrong repeatedly breached the conditions of his Anti-social Behaviour Injunction Order

A 36-year old man who repeatedly breached the conditions of his Anti-social Behaviour  Injunction Order spent Christmas in jail after being sentenced to 8 months imprisonment.

Armstrong has a history of frequenting the Broadfield area of Leyland and was a regular perpetrator of alcohol-fuelled incidents of anti-social behaviour  In particular, the father-to-be targeted residents of Bannister Drive and terrorised retired people living in the Northbrook Gardens Sheltered Scheme.

Mark Armstrong appeared in court on the 30th November after New Progress Housing Association took legal action against him when he failed to comply with the conditions of his Anti-social Behaviour Injunction Order. He was subsequently sentenced to seven days in prison.

On his release on the 7th December, District Judge Brooks awarded New Progress an Injunction with the Power of Arrest and served an Exclusion Order on Armstrong.

The exclusion order prevented Armstrong from entering the Broadfield area of Leyland including the boundary roads of Golden Hill Lane, School Lane, Haig Avenue, Broadfield Drive, Wellfield Drive. Leyland Lane and Tesco superstore.

However, on the 17th  and 18th December, Armstrong was arrested after he was sighted in the exclusion zone. On 18th December, he was found to  be  causing alarm and distress whilst under the influence of alcohol to a vulnerable resident of a sheltered scheme.

At Preston County Court today, District Judge Ashton stated: ' Vulnerable people within the community need to be defended from you.'

Said Gary Melia, Head of Housing at New Progress Housing Association: 'This is an important result for the local community. It will reassure local residents that we are working hard with our partners to ensure that the unacceptable behaviour of the minority does affect the quality of life in our communities.'
