IN THIS ISSUE OF PROGRESS PEOPLE - DOGGY DAYS

Steven Wood loves dogs so much that he is a volunteer at a local dog charity. Hyndburn Stray Dogs In Need is based in Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, where Steven lives. The kennels take in lost or abandoned dogs and, if their owners do not claim them, the dogs are re-homed by the charity. While they are waiting for a new home, Steven helps look after them.

He told us: “My work involves working in the kennels and looking after the stray dogs that are brought in by the local dog warden. I help to clean the kennels and make sure the dogs have plenty of food and water. I also show visitors around the kennels so they can look at the dogs and hopefully give them new homes.”

Gordon Allen, who works with Steven, said: “Steven is a really capable lad, he’s really come out of his shell and fits in well with everyone. He is treated as ‘one of the gang’ and we enjoy his company.”
Steven added: “I really enjoy my job as I love working with animals. It also brings a feeling of
fulfilment that I’m helping stray dogs find new owners that will love and care for them.”
