Margaret's favourite activity keeps her fit and healthy, and has introduced her to a colourful new world under the water.

Margaret, who lives in County Durham, told us that she only used to be able to swim short distances but since taking up snorkelling she can now go on for much longer.

Margaret was introduced to snorkelling by her support worker, Catherine, who herself is a proficient scuba diver. Originally Margaret wanted to scuba dive but because of an ear condition, Catherine suggested snorkelling. Margaret started to learn at her local swimming pool and continues to go every Wednesday evening.

Margaret told us: "I was excited that I could go and try snorkelling. I have bought a wet suit, mask, breathing aid and flippers that help me swim easily in the water. Snorkelling makes me happy as I can swim for long periods without lifting my head out of the water. I have learnt to use the right leg kick and how to swim underwater holding my breath and blowing out the water so I don't choke when I come to the surface.

"Snorkelling keeps me fit, I meet other people from the diving group and go out and socialize afterwards with Catherine. The best bit about snorkelling is when I am on holiday I can see the fish and watch them without losing them in the water!"
